Gruelle biographer Patricia Hall based her storyline for The Real-For-Sure Story of Raggedy Ann on her extensive research on Gruelle, then geared her text especially for young children. Artist Joni Gruelle Wannamaker based her illustrations on family photographs and heirlooms, to make this tribute to her grandfather's most famous creation true-to-life and historically accurate.
