Where did Raggedy Ann really come from? The Real-for-Sure Story of Raggedy Ann tells all about it! How Johnny Gruelle's famous creation came to be, evolving from scraps in a sewing basket. How she became a patented doll and storybook character. And how she set out to become a commercial plaything that would delight people across the world for more than 85 years.

Gruelle biographer Patricia Hall based her storyline for The Real-For-Sure Story of Raggedy Ann on her extensive research on Gruelle, then geared her text especially for young children. Artist Joni Gruelle Wannamaker based her illustrations on family photographs and heirlooms, to make this tribute to her grandfather's most famous creation true-to-life and historically accurate.

REVIEWS:

"Written by Patricia Hall, who has the most comprehensive Johnny Gruelle collection in the world, and illustrated by his granddaughter, Joni Gruelle Wannamaker, this book adds authenticity and validity to the story of the dolls. The pictures illustrate the story so well that the story can be told without reading a word of the script (although the book is well-written). The book teaches values such as imagination, work, resourcefulness and giving to others."

-Children's Literature

"The Real-For-Sure Story of Raggedy Ann will be popular with nostalgic parents and grandparents, who will enjoy sharing it at lap time."

-School Library Journal

"This charming illustrated story for children tells how Raggedy Ann was created from scraps in a sewing basket and how she came to be a cherished member of the Gruelle family and icon of American Culture."
