Who doesn't know Raggedy Ann and Andy? They're floppy and huggable and as familiar as ice cream. But where did they come from? Although grownups remember their childhood Raggedys and today's kids delight in the stories and dolls, how many know that Ann and Andy were created nearly 100 years ago by a cartoonist named Johnny Gruelle? LEARN SOME HISTORY! In this presentation for both the young and young-at-heart, author-singer-songwriter Patricia Hall shares some history and legends and some stories and songs about America's favorite ragdolls, Raggedy Ann and Andy. HEAR A STORY! Get ready for some tales about Ann and Andy! After reading aloud from several Raggedy books, Patty talks about good storytelling, stresses the importance of reading and writing, and speaks about the importance of illustrations and artwork in storybooks. MAKE SOME ART! Next, audience members get to be artists. After helping Patty with an interactive design activity, everybody can try their hand at making some Raggedy art of their own to take home. SING A SONG! All comers should bring their best singing voices, because Patty will be bringing her guitar. As a wind-up to the program, everyone gets to sing and clap along on some special Raggedy songs. CELEBRATE THE RAGGEDY WAY! Program hosts can offer a Raggedy Tea Party following "Raggedys Hurrah!" inviting each guest (along with a favorite doll or bear, of course) to enjoy cookies and punch and other tasty treats, just like in the Raggedy books. Copies of Patty's books can be made available for sale, which the author will be happy to autograph. Information on licensed Raggedy party goods and renting Raggedy Ann and Andy character costumes is available.
