LEARN WITH RAGGEDY ANN AND ANDY
A PROGRAM FOR EDUCATORS

Raggedy Ann and Andy have been going strong for nearly a century. With their shoe-button eyes, friendly grins, and nostalgic personas, the old fashioned Raggedys, created in 1915 by a cartoonist named Johnny Gruelle, are still able to win hearts.

Today's youngsters--the same ones who are captivated by their GameBoys and Sponge Bob Squarepants-delight in the Raggedy stories and modern versions of the dolls. And, because of the virtues Ann and Andy represent--kindness and compassion; hope and playfulness; courage and gumption—the fanciful rag doll characters are perfect for teaching young children about basic, time-honored values and ethics.

In this program, designed especially for pre-school and elementary teachers and librarians, author-singer-songwriter Patricia Hall shows how Raggedy Ann and Andy can open the doors to learning and serve as lively ambassadors in the classroom.

Patty discusses how the Raggedys can be integrated into contemporary curricula to teach units about art and design, literature, oral expression, and music. She also demonstrates several classroom activities included in the Teachers Guide she wrote for Simon & Schuster, Raggedy Ann and Andy Books: A Teachers Guide for Reading Groups.

Participants will also get to hear excerpts from several of the Raggedy Ann books, learn some history about Raggedy Ann and Andy and their creator, cartoonist Johnny Gruelle, and join Patty as she performs several Raggedy-style songs that can be used in the classroom. Each participant will receive their own copy of the Teacher's Guide, as well as a list of suggested books and materials for educators. A "Q&A" and idea-sharing session winds up the program.

MEET-AND-GREET AND BOOKSIGNING
An integral part of Patty's programs is the informal "Meet-and-Greet" that follows each of her presentations—a special time when participants can visit with each other and with Patty. Program hosts can also plan a book-signing as part of the Meet-and-Greet, during which guests may purchase personally inscribed copies of Patty's books.
